Being an optimist, whats the chance that the alternator feeds the ignition and that one of the wires has broke.

Failing that timing belt broke, you would see that if you take the filler cap off the rocker cover and spin the engine over, the cam wont be turning.

is it getting petrol to the engine, fuel pump stopped working or sumat, probably smell it by now if you have been churning it over.

Is it sending a spark down the leads, take one of the spark plug leads off and position it close to a metal bit, turn the engine over and you should see and hear it spark, dont hold it tho you will get a shock.

Thats a general guess not too familiar with these, but probably the route I would take if you called me out to it.

A bit more information would help tho, is it turning over, did it bang and pop before it stopped, any other noises, do you have ignition lights.

Apprieciate your predicament Joan but its not easy to diagnose from just being told it cut out and won't start. As David451 is indicating, there are many reasons why this might happen. It is reasonable to assume that the most likely readon is electrical when considering an engine that suddenly died. Thats not an exclusive statement I'm afraid and a timing belt failure could also be an expensive truth. If you're not familiar with engines or comfortable with the tool box then I suggest you either find a friend who is, or its time to visit the garage.

I wish you luck and hope its not too expensive.

you say it wont start - unfortunately we need more info than that.

are there any lights on the dash when you turn the ignition on?
does the starter try and turn the engine?
do you get any "clicking" noises when trying to start?
does the engine turn over?
does the engine cough or splutter?

when you have answered these q's we can take the next step.

have you checked the fuel cut off switch ? should be at the back left of the engine bay, with a sticker looks like a petrol pump with a line through it.

good luck.

hi thx for reply yes checked that its ok .it is getting a spark to plugs so now im stuffed dont know wat to do thx joan

Sounds like a lack of fuel then, especially considering the spluttering before hand as the engine flamed out. Cut off switch (as OP said) and fuel pump. I guess the ECU is okay if the plugs are sparking there but could there be a failure with the injection side of the system. Anyone know this chaps as I'm not that familiar with the K series lump.

Also, I know this is a stupid question, but there is fuel in the tank (Could be an instrumentation error on the dashboard)?
