Hi all, with the ever increasing cost of diesel I want to carry out as many improvements to my 300 tdi to get the most mpg. I have already blanked off the egr valve & replaced the cat with a straight pipe, are there any more mods I can do. I remember seeing on a thread about replacing the air filter with a k&n & also cleaning the inter cooler any ideas would be gratefully accepted. Snoops:)

Clean intercooler, inlet manifold all related pipes. Not much point to a K&N will take atleast 4000miles to recoup that cost piper X or Itg are cheaper and just as good you may want to think about putting in veg oil to the diesel if you are that concerns about cost.

Thanks to both for your replies, didn't fancy the veg oil route. have you any part numbers for the piper cross/itg filters. Thanks Snoops

Itg is WB-469 WB460 should cost no more than £40

Piper cross is Well I don't know as I use ITG lol but last time I seen them they where £35

I have but only after I removed the EGR, cat, cleaned the inlet manifold, cleaned the intercooler and pipes and only because the head gasket was **** I polished the inlets, cleaned and re-seated the valves and and polished the exsaust outlets. The filter on it's own dose not do that much unless the extra air has been cooled and has a smooth path.

It now gets about 40mpg on the motorway and 28-35 in town depending on how I drive it. Add to that I use a 3L diesel to 1l veg oil mix not to bad. If you do go that far you will notice the difarance in power delivery as well. when I got my disco I put it on a dyno to see how healthy it was turned out not that good it put out all of 98hp it is ment to have 120. After all the work I did it was put on the dyno again. it put out 130bhp on diesel and 129bhp on the mix
