Hi all

I am in the process ( still ) of rebuilding the old 90.

Almost to the point of buttoning up the engine and underfloor area when i noticed what appears to be a gasket.

Now before you all jump on me i know it is not the best photo in the world as i wanted to show the degradation rather than the location and have since had to return to the middle east for work so please bear with me.

To describe the location the black item at the bottom of the picture, ( link below), is the sump of a Disco 200tdi transplanted engine.
I think the gasket may be associated with the bell housing but i cannot seem to identify it in the manuals.
You can see a drain plug which is at the 6 o'clock position on the grey housing and what my be part of the clutch ( not sure ).
Can any of you gurus jump in with opinions and how to replace it if required as i don't want to refit everything only to find out i have to drop the gear box etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Rgds

Hi mate

when you say no issue do you mean it does not need replacing?

I just thought it strange that there was a drain plug and a soft gasket in same area? or does the gasket not seal the same void as the plug?

Thanks for the info.

clutch housing runs dry , threaded hole is for timing pin when needed ,it should be left open and wading plug fitted if you go wading, the gasket covers the of of the rear of engine ,but only part doing any sealing is around rear main bearing cap

Many thanks James

Much appreciated, i was concerned as to why the gasket had started to break up as i thought there might be oil coming from within.

After the grief i have had with the wiring i dont think i could handle another major issue at this time :)
