Hi all

Aghhhhh P38 developed a EAS fault on way into work this morning and sank onto the stops.

Preparing myself for the 10 mile rather bumpy journey home tonight (or would you recommend just getting recovery trusk out, am I likely to do any damage driving onthe stops?)

I've got the lead and RWsolutions stuff at home (although never used) so going to have a play this weekend however I need to drive up north on Thursday and so if I can't fix it over the weekend it will need to go to a garage to be fixed.

As only recently moved down this way I'd be really grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of a decent indpendent garage near to Weston Super Mare or south Bristol.

If anyone has any pointers on first time use of the EAS software please let me know.

I also used to have the P38 manual on my computer but this got wiped recently, can anyone point me in the direction of the download link and how to save it as a fixed drive (forgotten how I did it last time).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Green Oval downloads for RAVE I think. With the RSW software, you need to get a green box that says "Good Idle" before you try to do anything. You may well be able to just read the faults and then "Unlock" and find you are back in action. At least if you know what the fault is when you take it to a garage, you are less likely to get stung.

Cheers

Got all keen when I first got the P38 and bought the lead, quite glad I did now.

Only thing is that I'm not far from Steve Hill Land Rovers who I found to be recommended on here so I can either just take over to them to have a look at today or I drive the 10 miles home to try and fix it and then if can't drive it 10 miles back to Bristol to have it looked at on Monday (if they've space).

Thanks for the Green Oval (name rings a bell now) but I've had a couple of years of trouble free motoring and haven't needed to take anything apart and so forgot everything. Think I'm about to get reacquainted with it.

I'm in W-S-M too........no L/R specialist I have found here, best I know is an indy in Shepton Mallet- PM me if you want details!

Your problem will most likely be lack of air pressure. You need to check if compressor is running and that it is making good air. If it is check that no air is escaping through exhaust on block. Diaphragm/Compressor failed + a little leak most common cause of dropping to stops. Unless you have developed an enormous leak in an airbag.

Thanks Ridesafe, I'll drop you a PM for the details.

Currently car is with Steve Hill in Brislington as I urgently need the car next week so it has to be working and not going to happen again. Shame as it means that I'm going to pay instead of having a go myself.

Changed bags last year so think they should be fine, although haven't been under to see if one has burst.

I also have an O ring kit and I was going to work on valve block sometime as I knew there was a leak on the hose going to the air tank as it would often sink down overnight and then take a few mins to get back up in the morning suggesting that the tank wasn't getting enough pressure to fill.

I've also got a new arm for the air pump in stock somewhere which I was also going to replace at some point but funny how you never get round to things until they go wrong.

Both times mine went down on to the bump stops with a hard "35mph max" fault it was a height sensor:)

Well garage cleared faults and it seems to be running ok again.

The fault was referring to front right and there is a leak on the valve block.

I've heard that you can get a diaphram repair kit, does annyone know where I might be able to get one from?

Cheers

They are on Ebay, or I think you will find P38 spares do the American overhaul kit etc. Don't buy compressor or other stuff from the Dutch lot, there seem to have been a lot of failures with the compressor seal they do.:)
P38 spare, Island 4 X 4 and others do the height sensors, it will probably work for a while and as long as you have the laptop and cable in the car you can clear the fault if it occurs again until you have time to change the sensor. I cleared that kind of problem several times before I got round to doing the sensor:eek:

If you don't want to carry a laptop, think about getting an EAS kicker from Blackbox Solutions, It's alittle unit you can keep in the glove box that will read and clear the EAS faults.

I might have a look at one of those EAS kickers especially if I can't get this old laptop running, got an application error when tried to run the RWS program but another thread suggested updating windows service pack which I'm currently doing and seems to be taking for ever.
Fingers crossed I can get this working so can save a few bob as I already have the lead.
Did you say that you had some sort of power adapter to allow to use laptop in the 12v cig lighter socket? If so do you have any more info (make etc so I can try and find one on ebay)?
Cheers

If your compressor is knackered which i think it maybe or the diaphragm valve has split which it may have done. EAS kicker is a useful as tits on a mars bar.

I was more thinking for leaving in the car so I can get home.

There is a leak between 1st and 2nd blocks which I've ordered a diphragm replacement for.

Mmmh tits on a mars bars, two of my favourite things, I can't see a negative

A Mars bar with tits? Sounds scrummy:rolleyes: Garage cleared faults and it's up and running so the bet is that it's a height sensor playing up, in which case an EAS kicker would be very useful.:p

Have a look at the RSW web site FAQ's, you need to download some Windows stuff called net framework??? Can't remember the name, sorry, but you'll find it easy enough.

Yes true, but only if there is an electronic glitch. Any mechanical fail and the mars bar, complete with boobies comes into play. :D:D:D
