Thought I would sign up here as I'm considering buying a manual TD4 Facelift Freelander in either HSE or Sport Premium spec. I do 25K miles a year, currently in a 2007 Civic TypeR, and I need something a little better on juice and that can tow this on a trailer to events:

(220bhp supercharged - 0-60 mid 5 secs if you were wondering, it's brilliant and also slightly terrifying. Oh and a money pit) I also have part ownership in a MK2 MX5 endurance car that I might need to occasionally drag round the country.

Don't worry, I'm not going to ask any stupid questions (probably) as I know how google works, I've spent days and days reading about all the pitfalls and not been put off yet.

I've test driven a couple and already come to the conclusion that finding a good one could take a while. First was good to drive but a bit ropey inside and out, seconf was mint looking but not boosting and a bad drone coming from the rear somewhere.

If I do manage to find one I will look forward to some winter based car fun and use it for some light green lane shenanigans and today I have discovered ther eis such a thing as a roof tent! This is a revelation as it means kipping at race events would be more comfortable than on the back seat and weekends away with the long suffering Mrs Horney could be fun, like when we used to have a VW Camper.

I think that's enough wittering from me for now.

Hello horney and welcome

I've got a 2004 td4 and a black mk2 mx5 also

Trouble is they are both unwell at the moment

The td4 is mid master cylinder change which has turned into a nightmare ... See separate thread...you can buy that off me if you want !!! ..... And the mx5 is mid waterpump change ..... What a pig of a job that is !!!!

Anyway ..... Welcome

Blimey, sounds like you've got your hands full.

How have you found the TD4 other than the current misshap?

Well they do have their well documented issues but so does every car ...

This is my 5th freelander and have always found them to be ok

As long as you go into buying one with you're eyes open and are aware of their issues before hand...

Have no knowledge of the dealer you mention but from my experience I would always prefer to buy a freelander privately...

Probably a generalisation but I always think that most of the freelander said put into the trade have found their way there because they have issues... Usually expensive ones !,,

When I bought my current one , I looked at 4 at dealers .... Three didn't have the prop fitted which was never mentioned on the phone and they denied knowledge of when I pointed it out...... And the other had so many electrical issues ...

May be different if it's a Land Rover or freelander specialist

Good hunting

Chris
