Hello there, its time to get the SII Forward Control going again!

I tripped over this site looking for help with getting my Land Rover going again. It's already stopped me making a time consuming mistake, so decided to sign up

My Land Rover is a Series IIa Forward Control. I was bought it as a present many years ago intending to smarten it up. But it had been poorly looked after so all my available time has been spent just fixing things that break - rear diff, front diff, oil seals, radiator, hoses, prop shafts, engine, brakes - pretty much everything really. About 3 years ago the clutch failed, I put in a new friction plate but that just made things worse - couldn't disengage the clutch at all.

So completely disillusioned, the poor beast has just been sat there slowly rusting away. Anyway I'm starting to find some time and enthusiasm again. Pulled the gearbox out and have worked out what is wrong - incompatible mishmash of 9 and 9.5" clutch bits created when I had the old engine replaced with a 2.5 turbo diesel.

Thanks to this site and reply to a post by jamesmartin I now know which clutch cover plate to use and have found a source. Just need to find some clutch location dowels to replace the ones cut off by the engine fitters!

And of course the time to actually do the work

Welcome. An interesting landy for a change. Any.pictures? They are quite rare. Most of the ones I know of around my way are rotting away in back yards. They were very underpowered with the std 2.25l engine. The 2,5 turbo diesel should make a difference. Good luck with the project.
