Hi All
Quick not to re-introduce myself after a 3 1/2 year break.
Had several Land Rovers over the years including a Disco TDi 200 that disintegrated :) a TD5 which drove nice, but had all sorts going on, and lastly a Freelander TD4 3 Door which was much better and I ran it for 3 years.
But we decided to move up to Scotland and needed something bigger so went over to a 2011 Hilux 3.0 D-4D Auto, which I have to say has been superb, but for financial reason (lease payments) I decided to let it go, total reliability for 60,000, but just too big.
So, now back with a Freelander TD4 Manual Kalahari 130k. Cains Blue very tidy, but......

I had forgotten the joys of older Landy's, so back to similar issues.... worn turbo, intercooler and intake hoses, smaller vacuum hoses, cracked intake box, faulty turbo boost pressure control valve, bunged up EGR....
Great Fun!!!!

Will post up my mod's as I do them with results...
Cheers

Thanks Hippo
Well we are definitely back. but have cut my losses on the FL1 and as we need a van have traded it in, got a very nice Renault Kango for the Business....
BUT we still have our AMAZING FL2 - HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey 80k - I think the best Land rover ever made (by Ford ;))
It literally does everything - off-road, long distance cruiser, tows 2 tonnes, superg handling & ride quality, very comfortable and almost every conceivable (and useful) extra there is....
It is a keeper!

Blue ones are betterer...

Land rover had a fight on their hands to pull the FL2 design away from what ford wanted. They managed it. If it were down to ford alone it would have had a mazda platform and probably 2 wheel drive only. ;)

It's a good thing ford spotted the potential to bring the Freelander more up market. The Freelander 2 is the bestest vehicle ever built, with the Freelander 1 a close second. :)

100% Agree, I think Ford's involvement did help with the overall build quality, albeit a bit plasticky in places.
For an 08 with Bluetooth Hands Free Phone, 6 Disc Interchanger, 14 Speaker ALPINE Stereo with two Bass Speakers, Heated Leather Electric Memory Seats, Xenon Adaptive Headlights, Adaptive Cruise.... Auto Lights, Wipers and Mirrors.....

The HSE Auto is sublime, I can't think of a vehicle that does everything it does?
Fast (Auto 0-60 8/.8 secs) 120+ top speed, cruises at 90 all day long (In Germany of course ha ha..) Tows 2 Tonnes with ease, handles like a Gti, carries 5 people, unbelievable in poor conditions and pretty damn good off road as well!
MAssive Boot with seats down!
And a Ford/Peugeot 2.2 Diesel Engine.
Only one vehicle that can challenge it... Discovery Sport :)

These days plastic is everywhere. Both the Freelander 1 and 2 have a lot of plastic but cars do these days. The only other option would be metal, which would hurt in a crash.

Both BMW and ford helped lr improve quality. It's mocked quite a bit on ere but in general quality has got a lot betterer over the years. It helped when LR had the choice of products to use from BMW and ford. They weren't forced to use them if it didn't work for their needs. But most of it would so it made sense to take eggsisting parts like the pug diesel and use it.
