Hi new here and just purchased a Defender 90 tdi county sw 1997. The service history has been lost. Ive tried the obvious things with no luck. Anyone any ideas or maybe someone here works at a main dealership and can help me out for a drink. Thanks Steve

main dealer aint going to know if its been serviced regular in the recent of its 14 years ,change all the oils yourself and cam belt ,whats it matter, most of my customers arent that bothered as long as they know ive dione it and the past cant be changed if its in good fettle ,past service history wont matter, if you get it done properly ie all oils etc every year on normal mileage rather than book times it will last longer

Are you certain it was serviced at a main dealers for the first part of its life ?
If so you could try PMing Nicola from Land Rover customer services who was on here for a while offering to help where she could
Have you tried all of the previous owners to see if they can help.
One way to at least put something in place if you are worried about resale values or for your own peace of mind would be to have a good independent inspection producing a written report. You could also try a decent third party warranty. If I was buying I would put at least as much store by either of them as a sheaf of invoices and some stamps in a book, particularly since either can be faked or edited
