Hi All

A TD5 Disco owner here along with a long suffering partner from Norwich.

We love our Landy but at the moment she is seriously trying our patience.
To begin a long story (which I'll try to keep short!) the drive plate broke and damaged the pump in the gearbox. Of course, we didn't know about the pump until the drive plate had been fixed and the gearbox refitted. We then had the gearbox removed again and replaced it with 2nd hand box. New filter, new oil, no problem.

However ...... after approx 3 days of use the gearbox wouldn't go into gear without a rev - morning and engine cold. This 'not going into gear' is intermittent - one day it will happen, one day it wont, engine hot or cold.

We have covered over 700 miles and it is 99.9% reliable apart from this 'blip. We have changed the XYZ switch and set it up correctly through all the gears . It has been taken to a local Land Rover specialist who cannot find anything wrong with it - They checked the oil levels and and set up correct - typically it didn't happen when they had it!! The set up has been checked 3 times!!

Have tried driving in all gears incase it is a valve issue or something inside box.
Incidentally, the M & S lights have not come on at all since the original break down!

We have contacted a gearbox specialist who will perform a pressure test , again only if it fails in their hands, and leaving it with them for what could amount to days (need a 2nd car) is not practical.

Funds are limited and the bill is already £1300 so, before I go bald (him indoors already is!!) from pulling my hair out ...... Is there anybody, anybody at all who has come across this issue and could save our sanity?

We had 5 mechanics scratching their heads and no one can give shed any light.

Realise NOW that we should have gone down the re-con route but the Landy is not worth much more than the cost of the recon & fitting.

Please. And huge thanks in advance.
