headlight problems

Hey guys,

Im looking for some help with on going headlight problems.

I have a 2004 defender 110 td5.

I have now changed the light switch on the steering column, i have also changed the dim/dip relay( lucas ywc 10050 pink thingie), fuses are fine.

My question is where exactly is light relay on a 2004 td5 and where do i look to see the earth connections are fine on this td5...

Please dont say get a voltage meter, i will do this next week as i have one in my container at work which i cant get to until next week.... so i want to discount the relay and earth points first....

any help will really be appreciated...

cut the dim dip relay out, on mine there was a resistor pack that goes as well.
As far as I'm aware the headlight relay is also behind the dash clocks-hopefully someone can confirm as mine is older

Hi, had the same problem with my 1999 td5 defender, found the pink relay [lucas ywc 10050]
behind the drivers side speaker under dash, took out the relay and bypassed it. everything
works fine now. Gary

i took out the dim dip relay when i had trouble with mine and its been good ever since.

I have a 2006 TD5 with dim dip and I want to bypass it. If I remove pink relay [lucas ywc 10050] will that work or is there anything else I need to do?

Had a weird headlight fault many moons ago (no lights and silly back up alarm going or some such - too long ago, too many faults since.......) - istr tracked it down to a failed wire between the headlight switch (or fuse...?) and dim dip resistor - couldn't be a**ed to find it so ran a new cable through the bulkhead and no probs since. I suspect the types of fault are endless - just eliminate each one replacing circuitry as you go........ (with hefty and protected cables etc etc).
