Head Gasket ??

Have a 300tdi year 95 with 130k on clock, and planning a long trip next summer. Is it a good idea to do it around now as I hear a lot blow around 150k, mine runs fine so am I just asking for trouble or should I leave it .

mines at 175k no gasket fail yet !

Wondering if its a mileage thing, age, or servicing intervals or just pot luck.

depends on how good cooling system is and has been (over hot in the past may show up later)and number of thermal cycles and pot luck on quality of head and gasket and burn in cylinder, if i was going to eurpoe etc i might fit a new one on myself as insurance as well as checking rad is really good new thermostat water pump and p gasket etc

if it aint broke dont fix it

though you say that, preventative maintainence is what stops you breaking down when away ,and you dont get aa or rac recovery with a 10 year old car if going abroad
