Hello Everyone

( Originally posted this in Introductions but seems more appropriate here)

I have just bought a 1.8 Freelander ES 2001 (Y Reg) 45K miles, from a main dealer.
Now, I am absolutely delighted with it but have been reading on the Web that there are some problems with the Head Gasket on this engine.
I assume that it effects pre 2000 facelift models as these seem to be the only ones posted on the web with this problem.

I have a Landrover warrenty so would be covered if something went wong, but could anyone tell me if i have need to worry and what should i look out for.

Many Thanks

Finnster :)

This is a very comon problem with this engine, which is helped by regular servicing by competent mechanics. Keep a check on coolent and oil levels and also that temp gauge for anything unusual. Im not sure if the problem has been cured on newer models but i is still being fitted so you never know. My Dad has had one for the last 2 (53 plate) years and it gets well used towing etc and hes never had any problems with it. Just make sure it is servied by landrover agents to keep your warranty just in case.
