as title says....all the work i did for my hg change was correct, sniff test came up negative...however...the head is blocked from a previous owners attempt at a repair, k seal, rad weld...something .......its clogged up stopping water circulating round whole engine hence why i cant get rid of air prperly.......now shopping for a ready to fit recon head.

thanks for all the advice prior to the change to everybody.

dont know yet trax, car coming home friday as im not paying 1029 quid for the garage to do the job.so il look into it more before buying

Didn't you turn the liners? If so, it must be loosing coolant into the sump. A sniff test wouldn't be able to tell that.

i did move them nodges and im still going to address that issue, how ever since i re built and flush oil and re filled oil there is no evidense of water in oil?

just picked car up from garage and drove it home 15 miles at a steady 40 ish.
garage told me they had filled water so its able to get me home............

got home...no issues..no over heating, heaters good heat eventually.....checked hoses and water when i got home just out of interest more than anything and..........expansion tank empty...bottom hose warmish and fan was on.....so im guessing they didnt bleed it just filled it......but the rest is confusing again.

Or the coolant as now leaked in to the sump on your drive home, re sealing the liners is
the first job before getting a new or recon head, did you tell the garage that you moved the liners.

yes i did digi, they tested any,not to me to tell em how to do the job, i just know when i rang to say i was getting car towed home they said its back ogether and full of water..i didnt check that tho.

i do have another query also tho from what garage said.

in the picture....wen i take the circled pipe off and shove hosepipe into expansion tank to flush system....should i get powerfull flow(hose pressure)...or a trickle? im thinking hose pressure.

i don't know the td4 layout, but if it's after the stat, then it'll be closed blocking the water. might be a bypass nearby though.

try filling the header tank again then have the engine running and bleed it, then fill the header tank to in between the lines on the header tank when it is cold and see how it goes.

thanks teddy, il give that ago cant hurt i guess, can you tell me while engine is running header cap is off top bleed screw out should i still get a flow out of the hole? when ive done it previous i get flow with engine off but nothing coming out when engine running, i just see it going past.

thanks

yes should still run out of the bleed screw the only thing taking the header cap off you will have no pressure so very little will come out. this is a good get you home when you have a slight leak as top of no pressure.

thanks teddy that is the answer i have ask for and waited for, for a while.(after several times of asking)...when i have bleed screw out and cap off with engine running ive never had coolant out of that pipe .....always just flowing passed ive looked with torch and it has alway just gone though that upper pipe never out of the bleed screw hole with engine running.

and now for my next one whilst u have my attention, i put car into a garage as i did hg andcar obv not right still so i thought done something wrong.............right side of engine at top near rocker cover the upper pipe from rad goes ...........when removed and water is applied at expansion tank should i get hose pressure or reduced pressure? they say head is blocked with sealant so wont flow as shld, yet when i collected car and drove steady for 15 miles bottom hose warm...and no over heat....but expansion tank empty(not sure thet filled and bled tbh).sorry for rant but they tell me(ive heard rumours after i put car in in) i need new head as its blocked...but then drive home and it doesnt budge from normal temp at 40-50 mph for 15 miles.......if i need one il get one but i really need definative...yes it does...before i part with money im going to borrow to buy it.

If the top hose doesn't let water out when filled from the expansion tank, it does suggest a blockage. The K series is very thermally efficient so could quite possibly run normally with a small amount of coolant circulating. Don't be fooled by the temperature gauge being sat at the normal mark. The gauge reads normal if the engine is between 75 and 115 ° C.

nodges im gonna check what garaghe said tomorrow...purely because i havent worked where i have for long but boss knows someone who had workdone etc etc..........................when i take top pie from rocker cover off.......and put hose into expansion tank....what sort of pressure shoule i see?...hose-ish....or trickle?

The expansion tank is connected to the engine with a 1/2" hose. This will reduce the flow, but it should still run out of the top hose outlet pretty fast.
It's a shame you aren't near me. I'd love to take a look at this engine.

if theres one thing i wish at this time..its some one that knows more than i do.......i know some but we all need help
