Hi

New to this forum, been reading it for two days to find some answers, thanks, very useful.

Just bought a 2001 V6 2.5 auto, good buy, but a few things to sort out. Never had a Landrover of any kind before (all VW's!!!). Had the 3 Amigos, which I sorted by taking out the accelerometer under the centre console, checking the wiring and giving it a good tap with the handle of screwdriver, I expect it will fail again, but seems to be working now.

HCD is not working, took it down a very steep lane nearby, in first, with the switch on, just kept accelerating away...thought I'd better apply the brakes at about 25mph!!

All lights come on at diagnostics at start up. When the HDC button is depressed, no lights, no solid green in 1st or R, no flashing light in other gears.

The flashing green HDC light has appeared a few times very briefly (seconds), but disappears again before I have the chance to test if the system is actually functioning.

Other issues that may be connected? Cruise control does not work, all lights function on the switches (master switch and steering wheel switches, but cruise control does not activate).

Front brake pads getting low, but still have some life left in them.

Slight 'clonk' from rear of vehicle intermittently when selecting reverse (prop-shaft bearings? Rear Diff mounts? Something more expensive, VCU?Seems to be wrong year for the subframe recall issue or is the problem more widespread than the recall?)...

Anyway, I have read all the stuff about the wires under the gaiter, but that seems to relate to manuals, does the same issue occur on autos? Didn't want to remove all the centre console mouldings if it is not a likely suspect. Other possible causes? I have listed the other faults to possibly aid finding a solution to the HDC not working, rather focus on one thing at a time, will come back to those if I need any help later (including the driver's door not unlocking on the fob, which I assume is the solenoid issue?)...

So...any advice on getting the HDC working would be great...I help run a mountain bike trail centre, so I will actually be using it off-road down steep tracks occasionally, not just for popping down to Tesco's!!!

Thanks...

Nice to see another v6 owner of ere. Did you take your feet off when going down hill testing the hdc?

Can't remember if you can pull the hdc switch up on an auto to release from the plastic - I think you can. This would allow you to remove the switch and test it.

Yep, had my feet off everything, until I got to 25..when I decided it was time to slow down!!! The switch seem to be fitted from below, if the swtich is likely to be an issue, I'd rather take the console off and check everything, rather than risk snapping or pulling something off in a voyage of interior fixings discovery!... remember, I'm a newbie to Landrovers, dont what to go in blind and feck it all up! (Any tips on how to remove the centre console (gear/ash tray section) much appreciated..)

I don't think it will be the switch but it could be. When I see mine tomorrow I'll pull it and see if it comes out. If not:

Open cubby box and remove 4 screws.
Lift out center cubby box thing.
Undo 2 bolts at base of cubby box inside near where you can see inside by the handbrake asy. These hold the cubby box in place.
Cubby will slide back a bit now to allow you to remove the plastic around the auto lever.
Pull auto lever handle up - it's tight so don't hit yerself.
Undo screws on either side of plastic around the auto lever - screw by your ancles when driving - 1 either side.
Pull 3 heater control switches off and undo screws behind them.
Pull off plastic cover and remove or loosen 2 screws under it - under end of hand brake.
Auto lever plastic should slide back now and come up. Feel under it to disconnect wires/switches.
You may need to undo some more screws around the heater controls.

If you start her up and move the gear lever into steptronic 1st,
do you get a flashing F4?? on the left edge of your trip display.

I have an auto as well (Td4)
I cannot engage first gear on mine in normal auto mode
and as so the HDC will not work..
works in reverse though..I am fairly sure mine in cable related,,
or the solenoid in the box itself..(F4 Flashing Amber HDC with !)

just a little question..
do you have any lever play between gears or
elongated gear positioning..
or is it all very click type precise??

Good Luck..

Thanks for that..I don't have any of those symptoms...figured out how to get to the switch today, 5 pin connector with 4 in use, can any one tell me the pin configuration so I can test if the switch has failed? How can I test the cruise control ecu?

I bought RAVE on a CD, but I have a MAC, it only seems to install on a Windows PC...is there such as thing as a MAC version?

Hi Ragged,

Did you manage to sort out your problem with the HDC? I'm only asking because i have the same issue with mine.
I did not remove the center console just moved the leather around the gear stick and pushed the plug up and tested it. No power was going into the Switch.

if you have no power to the HDC switch you need to check a wiring diagram and see where the power comes from

could be a blown item or a broken wire

hi why can you not engage 1 st gear

I had same problem on my HDC. Removed it from gear level and found the two wires to the switch had snapped off. Soldered back on and refitted to gear level, worked perfectly after that.:tea:

Well if anyone can help me would be great, if I put in 1st gear it flashing green but if I put in reverse it's a solid green HDC light.

So how do I make it work in first gear to get solid green light please?
