Please don't tell me to search for the 3 Amigo's.
I've done that and not found anyone with the exact same problem.
I've been searching for hours.

This new to me 1999 Freelander 2.0 XE Di Hardback has this light constantly on.
The orange HDC light is constantly on....indicating a fault in the system.
It is the only one of the 3 amigos that remains on.
I've noticed as I reversed at home after dark that the reversing lights don't work either.
Are these two problems related?

Where do I start looking?

I don't have a service manual, so advice on the best/cheapest and source of one would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

the hdc system only works in 1st and reverse so if your reverse lights arn't working i would hazard a guess and say it's linked. get that sorted and see what happens (possibly the reverse switch).
could also be a short on the hdc switch or wires under the gearstick. have a poke round and check.
get those reverse lights sorted first though. nothing ****es me of more than a car coming flying back at ya with no lights showing:rolleyes:

as said above download the rave manual, tis worth it's weight in gold

Thanks guys. Once Christmas is over and the snow shifts I'll check it out.

I've been Googling for spare parts.
Where do you guys get your parts from?

Brake lights sorted.

A long story cut short.....
Decided to give her a Service with the help of a good friend and fellow Freelander owner.
Oil change, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter. Brakes cleaned and checked, and a new battery.
Problem....wouldn't turn over after battery change. Assumed it was imobilised.
Got the EAK code and did the re-set function....still imobilised.

Turned out to be a bad connection to the small wire at the starter motor (Relay connection?)
Whilst clutching at straws to solve the problem we removed and checked/cleaned a number of fuses and relay connections.

Result....the connection to the small (brown) wire to the starter motor solved the non starting...and we guess one of the fuses was for the reversing lights and after cleaning they now work.

A quick look under the gear stick gater reveals the HDC switch isn't connected. The wires are just lying loose by the gearstick.
I guess that is the reason for the HDC error light.

Will look at that at the next opportunity.
