Just a quick one, slowly I'm getting the r380 conversion back together, but I'm not sure if I've been had off with the wrong props. Standard defender r380, in factory position coupled to 300tdi, I've got FRC8386 up front which I had in the shed from an old disco, and FRC8393 at the back?
Question is, the front prop has much more available slide on it than the back one and I don't know why it if it's meant to be like that?

(I know the front needs a boot, all in good time 😉)

It will have a gaitor for sure, it's more of a mock up at the moment, as soon as I know it is meant to be that way, I'll whip it off and cover it up. It's the back one I'm more worried about incase it's too long?

I think you have a pre 300 rear propshaft which is shorter I have a 300 tdi rear prop shaft which is too long for my pre 300 tdi landy. Doh!

I think you have this rear prop shaft FRC8392 pre and including 200 tdi. 300 the propshaft is around best guestimate 2 inches 50mm longer

measure it closed

Oww forget that didn't realise its the other way around. The front propshaft you have is too long you need a defender 300 tdi front propshaft. TVB100610

As soon as you go offroad its likely to either come apart or fail causing damage and possibly stranded

fyi.. rinsed from elsewhere

Early trucks (upto 200tdi) use a 654mm front prop (FRC8390), and a 635mm rear (FRC8392).
Later ones (300tdi onwards) use a 610mm front (TVB100610), and a 683mm rear (FRC8393).

measured closed.

The rear one is frc8393, I can see it stamped in, it was bought as 300/td5 rear so that must be right.
I can also read the frc8386 on the front which corresponds to disco 300 and defender 300 front? Maybe it is all cushty then? I just thought the rear one looked a bit too closed up, guess I'll soon find out when it knocks and bangs

Front one looks far too extended and rear one closed up assuming it's sitting at ride height.

Are you sure the gearbox is in the factory position and it's not for instance an inch too far rearward?

Nope, I've re welded mounts for engine as per factory spec using a template specially made, bolted in disco crossmember and it all lined up a treat, including new down pipe so I'm confident it's all in the right position. This is exactly why I've had to question it! If only it was insured 🔥💰!

well something is wrong! that front prop is extended way more than it should be (if it's at ride height)

Either the box is in the wrong place or the propshaft is too short. Going by the rear prop being a bit tight I would have bet the box is circa an inch out but hey if you measured it then I guess both props are wrong because something isn't right!
