Have fitted another engine to my Discovery2

Right Guys, am a complete newbie at this so be kind to me!
I have just finished fitting another engine into my Landrover discovery and have connected all the fittings etc. Used existing loom for wiring and everything electrical working as it should. Just need to get the engine started next. Am I correct in presuming the reason for non start is that the ECU has to recognise the new engine? If this is the case, How do I go about it. Have looked online and it would seem that if I need a code reader the one to use would be the Hawkeye v4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The injectors are coded to the ecu.
This is to get the exact amount of fuel at the right time i assume for emissions.
But i would guess it would start but not be smooth.

Probably just has air in it,they are terrible for it.Do the bleed cycle at least three times and then try starting it.(Ignition on then pump the throttle to the floor more than 5 times in less than 10 secs.Let the pump cycle on and off till it stops completely.Then do the same a couple of times more)
Not having the injectors coded wont affect starting,but the engine may not run too smoothly or develop quite all of its power.

were the injectors shagged in the old motor if not fit them to the new motor wont need programing then they are a bitch to get out and be careful to put them back in order

You have only done HALF of the fuel bleeding process.

Now bleed the INJECTORS, as in PURGE them of air or gas.

TOWING it is the best way.
Get the rope on.
IGN OFF
THROTTLE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR ALL THROUGH - DON'T LET IT UP even for an instant.
Now with throttle still jammed to the floor, IGN ON, engage 3rd gear. TOW away, clutch up, and just keep going at about 10 ~ 12 mph (that will be about 800 - 850 rpm) till your engine fires up and you smash into the back of the tow car. Use a longer rope next time.

On the starter this may take THIRTY SECONDS OR MORE CONTINUOUS STARTER MOTOR RUNNING! You may need to do it more than once.

1. IGN ON. leave it ON. Hear fuel pump running. When it stops deck the throttle pedal five times and the pump should start again. Keep doing this, at least five or six times.

IGN OFF now.

2. IGN OFF, and then with IGN OFF, jam the throttle pedal to the floor and HOLD IT DOWN. If you let it up even for an instant the procedure will FAIL.

Still with throttle hard down all through this process, turn IGN ON, wait 10 - 20 seconds (for fuel pump to pressure up) then RUN the starter and after a while you should begin to hear one or two cylinders beginning to catch. KEEP GOING on the starter till the engine is running or the battery goes flat.

After that it should be OK.

In MY TD5, for all normal starts, it does help to wait 20 seconds after turning IGN ON, before running the starter.
