Evening, Im a new member and have had a Range Rover P38 since 2004 this was my pride and joy, modified to the max, over the years I have been to dealer to have work done and felt conned and charged over the odds for things not required.
I sourced a Land Rover specialist in my area, I found HARRIS MAYER COUNTRY CARS RICKMANSWORTH HERTS WD3 1PE Tel 01923711800 contact Peter.

Over the years I have had major work done and small jobs, plus just job which i wanted to have done to make my car special, on looking over my receipts for the years I've spent £8754.22 with Harris Mayer always payed and had a very good repore with the engineers there.

I had a major job done a few years ago as my engine had had enough, I was told I would need a new engine, after talking to the owner Peter, he suggested I upgrade to 4.6 ltr from a 4.0ltr.

I've had a feeling Harris Mayer where getting over friendly over the years as they knew I would part with my money in search for profection, on this feeling I decided to go to a dealer again to have my services done.

A few month ago I had a very bad misfire so bad I had to pull over and wait for assistants, on taking the car to my garage to find the problem, it took time but in the end my engine was striped down and revealed that my camshaft had failed, three of the lobs were missing causing bad miss fire, I had a lot of parts replaced as you can imagin with this job costing £1987.88

As my new engine which was fitted by Harris Mayer only 51k had been clocked up, the engineer specialists and engine rebuilders I hire to see if it was ware of faulty camshaft, three people came back with faulty part was the cause.

I contacted Peter at Harris Mayer over the phone, he said okay We will sort problem and claim on our company insurance for the fault.

As I didn't hear form Harris Mayer for a while I put it in writing twice to make sure he would follow thought with his word.

After still no replay for two months today I called Peter at Harris Mayer and spoke to Peter regarding issue, I was told today that when Harris Mayer fitted my engine, that Harris Mayer is not the same company as today but still Harris Mayer and Peter is still there, he told me he would not honer his word or help me at all and said he will not take respondability for my engine now.

I said I have spent a lot of money with you Peter over the years and now I need your help to claim for my faulty engine, Peter the owner started shouting on the phone and said " Listen to me I will not help you or anything, and if you goto a solicitor I will respond with a letter and that will be the end of it" I wanted to say more but Peter was angery and shouting at me then hung up on me.

I know this is a long story, but very important for people to know the service I have received from Harris Mayer Country Cars.....

no relation to Harris Mayes then?

Apart from joining the forum just to diss a Land Rover garage, your posting does not add up.

You've had your Range Rover for 8 years, and you say "over the years" you had work done by dealers but were unhappy, so again, over the years you had work done by Harris Mayer sic? Just how many "over the years" were there?

Then, a few years ago, (years again!!) you had an engine swap (done by Harris Mayer sic). After these "few" years you developed a misfire which is diagnosed by another mechanic as lobes "missing" from the camshaft. Remarkable how it ran for those years quite well without those cam lobes?? Furrhermore, the car has done 51,000 miles without those cam lobes.

I suggest you contact Land Rover immediately as you have a unique engine there. Runs perfectly with insufficient number of cam lobes for "few years".

I don't know if your engine was fitted with a faulty camshaft. I have no personal knowledge of the work done by Harris Mayes (obviously a competitor to Harris Mayer in Rickmansworth?) but I do know they have many good reports on here and other reputable Land Rover Fora.

Do you eat chopped ham & pork?

Let me just get this straight................. A few YEARS ago you had a new engine fitted.
a few years ago as my engine had had enough, I was told I would need a new engine, after talking to the owner Peter, he suggested I upgrade to 4.6 ltr from a 4.0ltr.
Then in fact you go elsewhere for services.
I decided to go to a dealer again to have my services done.
A few MONTHS ago the camshaft gave up. Now you want to claim under the guarantee for the engine.
A few month ago I had a very bad misfire so bad I had to pull over and wait for assistants, on taking the car to my garage to find the problem, it took time but in the end my engine was striped down and revealed that my camshaft had failed
-------------- Have I got this correct?

If I am correct, and if I was *Peter* from said Landrover agent, YOU would be getting a solicitors letter for slander.
Check the invoice that you've kept with reference to the engine change, I'll bet it probably gives 6 months g/tee only, you're well over that.

I would suggest that you get a mod to remove this item ASAP if you don't want more problems.
