Hammerite smooth

The rear tub needs a new coat.

I was thinking of giving Hammerite SMOOTH a go with a brush.

Thinking white. Ive never used smooth, is it any good? Does it leave a nice smooth finish?

I haven't used it before.... Sorry when I said "needs a new coat", I meant paint.

your post implied yu had used hammerite - but not the smooth - the smooth is the same as the other stuff except for the "hammering" agent - so yu use it the same.

Its paint

a tin of coach paint would leave a better finish and prob be cheaper. easy to use with a roller and brush.

Ive found smooth and hammered OK, and stick well to existing rust. Dont think heat resistance is good tho,I would steer clear of areas that get too hot.
The proper enamel might be better but you may need to prep. more thoroughly to get a good job!

I use hammerite to refurbish plastics machinery, I have found it to be fine, but you will get a much better finish using a mini roller than a brush.

Buy a 10 pack of the GLOSS rollers (not the emulsion ones). The gloss ones are a synthetic foam and soak the paint in, they give a nice finish, but after a while they tend to break up, hence the 10 pack.

Give it a try, I am sure you will be pleased with the result and it is 100 times better than brushing it on.

It dries perfectly smooth. I've used yellow for various things and the only problem is that it seems to run a lot. Try and paint it on while it's laid down or if not you will need a couple of coats.

It is quite easy to spray on as long as you thin it down using the correct thinners.

My whole lanny was sprayed in hammerite.

Not perfect but then it was never meant to be.

I would recommend stripping the existing paint off in order to get the new paint to key to the metal.

If you're using the smoothrite on steel, I've had excellent and as yet uncorroded results (nearly 20 years) using finnagans own 'rustbeater' primer underneath.
