The head started to weep on my 300tdi. So the head is off and was ready to buy a new gasket but the old gasket has no holes punched into it so I,m not sure what one to buy???
Also it has had an oil leak that looks like its coming from the back of the engine area and with the head off there is a pipe that looks like it has snapped, it looks like the same sort of pipe thats used to vent the diffs but its not from them. I has got me lost a bit as to what its from.

sounds like a no holer gasket i fink im right in saying thats the fickest one you can get
and do a search plenty of info on here

Ok thank you. I have been looking at most sites to buy one and can only see the one or two or three holed ones so it lost me a bit.

Where exactly is the pipe you think is broken? I think the gear box breather pipes come up behind the engine, so that could be what you can see, but it wouldn't explain your oil leak

That does sound like either the gearbox or transfer box breather pipe, that's where they terminate on my 200tdi Disco.

Does sound like you have the thickest HG (a no-holer).

The two pipes just stick up from behind the head and look like the same sort of pipe used to vent the diffs etc.
Just looked at them and couldn't work out why they look like they have been snapped?
And thanks for the help on the head gasket I will get one today.

If it has a no holer her it's been changed before, probably by someone who didn't know how to work out which gasket to fit.

Do a search of HG choice and piston protrusion, if you could use a 3 or 2 that would be better, thinner gaskets tend to last longer and offer a stronger seal.

Been to a local 4x4 parts supplier and he advised just to fit a 3 holer. The new gasket is metal and the old gasket was fibre so have I got a better one to go back on???

Not sure if these are going to work
