I have read a few posts but still unsure - so here goes.

For the past few weeks when starting the car I can hear a gurgling behind the dash, Today when driving home there was no warm air coming from the heater, heater matrix I though as I was stuck in traffic earlier. On the drive home there was no loss of power (happy at 60 mph) but lots of commotion coming from under the bonnet, sounded like plastic being hit by one of the fans or a bird under the bonnet.

The car got me home and when I looked under the bonnet I could not see anything wrong nor are there any leaks. The exhaust manifold is blowing a bit and I was going to get it seen to this weekend.

Could this all be from the heater matrix failing?

Greetings from Wales - Dave

could be it needs bleeding, under the bonnet where the pipes go into the bulk head there is a bleeder screw on the top hose make sure you have water in the header tank.
