Update: the car suffered catastrophic turbo failure resulting in it running off its own oil for a few seconds which certainly gotta attention. So I replaced the turbo with a nice shiny recon unit with new oil pipes and filters etc. Luckily the engine survived without a single problem. It did smoke for a few miles though. Following that eventful week the front propshaft decided to disintegrate I have the pics to prove it. How it didn't snap n half I will never know. So all in all November has been quite exciting for this chapter :) ps I'm looking to straight swap my transfer box for a defender job 1.41 or 1.6 I'm not bothered I just want some poke bak lol

IMO you'll need HD front drive shafts too cos you'll kill the CVJs with those tyres... out of interest as i'm making a research how is you ABS and TC working?...i'm interested especially about ABS how the braking distance is affected on slippery roads with such different than standard tyres, i made a comparison between mine(standard 255/65/16 ATs) and a friend's(265/70/16) MTs on the same wet road in a rainy day with approx the same weight and from same speed(we drove near each other with 70kph/43mph and hit the brakes at the same time) and he stopped 3m:eek:...yes 3 meters further, he said that just felt the pulsing pedal and the car just rolled....sorry to invade your nice car's presentation thread but it's important to me to figure this out.

Hi Fery, I suspect the difference in braking distance was much more down to tread pattern (Muds) and make-up of the rubber, rather than size.

@ Gregja - you've got a great looking vehicle there mate, but could you do us all a favour and reduce the size of picture a bit - it makes reading the thread really difficult otherwise.

Hi Mate in all honesty mud tyres on wet tarmac are dangerous don't ask me how I learnt that lesson :-(

Get any problems with tyre rub?

In some circumstances it will rub on the wheel arches but not that bad really.

Sorted and thanks :)

Cheers mate :)

Interestingly, in the early 90's (sorry) Wheels Australia ran a test that showed that ABS was no advantage once the tyres were at or past half-worn. You would hope that ABS has improved since then, but I don't know how it could. With my last car (Subaru) I disconnected the ABS. I feel I am better than those yobbo's that need it, but yet haven't worked if I can do this on my Td5.

that's not so hard, remove the relay and no ABS, but that would let you without TC and HDC too... the other method is to insert a relay on the brake pedal switch cicuit as to cut the ABS relay when you press the pedal, then you'll not have ABS but TC and HDC will work...in that default mode the EBD is partially retained which is good... everything is doable just think very well what you want for yourself

Beast. You had it MOT like that yet? Did they say anything about the wheels being wider than the arches?

It was mot'd with those wheels on and nothing was said about them. I've read so much conflicting info on the web that I'm just going to play it by ear.

I know what you mean. From what i can gather, it's only ever an advisory if they do say anything.

The 50mm arch kit just looks better than the 75mm in my opinion

I have the 50mm arch kit I bought them at the same time I got the wkheels online it wasn't until I fitted everything did I find out they were not completely covered up. The police have had plenty of chances to pull me but so far they don't seem bothered. If I do get a tug I'll be sure to get the facts off him, because nobody else seems to know 100% what the requirements are so I'm just going to have to wait and see if anything happens.
