Hi all i'm new to all this and would like to do a bit of green laning around the herts area, are any of you going out over the xmas time that would be willing to take a nooby out with you. I did try and get out with the herts and beds club today but they say they are full.

We're always out and about, like Beaker say have a look at the Herts thread. As long as you've got front and rear recovery points, you're more than welcome.

I got some Jates for the front, the only prob is the steering guard uses the bolt holes, i have seen steering guards with recovery points are these any good and do i really need a steering guard, the rear has a good solid tow bar with a pin type hook up

Steering guards with recovery points built in seem fine. I don't have a steering guard, there's pros and cons to both. It can act like a plough and because it's a bit lower than if you didn't have one, you can get stuck when without one you wouldn't. Obviously it gives protection, but I've never bent anything underneath and I'm pretty much up for anything. If I lived in Derbyshire I'd have one because most of the lanes are rock, but round here it's just mud.

The recovery points that have a swivel and a 'C' shaped bracket that sit over the bumper and use the bumper bolt are good, or you can use what I've got, which is the old fashioned D rings which sit on top of the dumb irons, again using the bumper bolts pus drilling another set of holes for the fixing. They're good enough to lift the landy on the air portables.

Lookat the Herts Laners Thread (as mentioned before)

all the info you need for this area is there as well as details of how to link up with others in the area - pub meet once monthly!

phantom welcome as said pop over to hertfordshire lanes thread just click last page and say hello, the pub meet usually ends up with a half organised month well sometimes it does sometimes we just chat bull****, welcome new comers and organise our bigger further affield trips like our wales trip we are currently in the middle of organising

Have a look at the essex thread as well, hoping to get out on the 20th or 21 feb. Will be heading up north from Harlow
