Great site - Need some info

Hi,
New to the site, so go easy on me.
I have viewed for several months now ( and have found it extremely informative ) since I took the plunge and bought a DiscoTD5 ( Had Defender 300 Tdi for 5 yrs).
Firstly details - it is a 2001 GS Td5 Auto 7 seater with A/C, SLS and NO ACE and 70 000 miles.Also is chipped .
Since I bought ( 6 months ) it I have had the dreaded 3 Amigos which was the driver front sensor :(and diesel leak which was the Fuel regulator :mad: , I have ripped out the EGR( On your recommendation) :) and treated it to a full service BUT
1. On Friday did some light trailer work and when re started sounded like running on 4 Cyl , lots of vibration , pulling like s##t :mad::mad::mad::mad:.
2. Got her home and checked site and found thread about Oil in injector Harness, so removed plug at head and found oil, also removed plug from ECM and more oil , so cleaned both plugs with carb cleaner and hooked all back up and started engine and it is running better than ever.but
- Can you spray carb cleaner onto ECM without any probs?
- I would like to change the Injector harness ( I believe there is a newer type )but am not sure if the newer type is suitable for my year?
Finally - where would I get a replacement wiring loom from the Head to ECM ( I think I saw a thread about making up your own but Electronics and wiring not my thing, just nuts and bolts) ?

Hi Ciaran666, welcome to the site if you've not had one before.

Sorry I can't help with your questions because I'm a Tdi man, but the Td5 boys will be along soon, I've no doubt.

dont spray carb cleaner into the ecu...rather get a good electrical contact cleaner.....go mad....shud get it all out

Will get some Elec cleaner tomorrow and give it a thrash.

Does anyone know if there are any differences in Injector harness for model years and if they are suitable for my 2001 Auto Td5 as I have seen a few on Ebay but not a lot of detail.

if you are aware of the problem, just keep it clean. I never bothered changing my loom, just check it now and again.

WD40 and an Air line workes for me

Just what I needed to hear that this problem can be kept under control and I dont need a load of spares as I have a trip to Yarksheer in 10 days and didnt fancy 2 kids and boss telling me I should have taken the wolvo as we sit on the dockside in Cairnryan.
