Over 40 mph and semingly randomly my disco has started to get a really quite vicious shake that makes the whole car start to wobble about if i turn in to a bend it stops or if i let off and accelerate again it stops but it does seem to be getting more frequent!

I've had a quick look underneath and nothing appears loose any idea's??

If it's a 300 Tdi then check the rubber donut on the rear prop/diff connection, when they fail, or start to fail, they give all kinds of vibration. Also worth checking the UJ's on both props too.

have you changed tyres lately because when my mate changed his tyres he put the 2 front tyres on wrong with the directional arrow going anti clock wise and he got terrible vehicle wobble around 40mph,when he put the tyres on correctly all was fine and shakes and wobble's stopped.

Could be the front prop uj! Mine started shaking vilontly from 2000-3000rpm looked underneath earlier and the uj on the back of the front prop has more play in it than that!

Worth checking!

Checked the UJ's and they seem fine, i've noticed it only does in when driving in a straight line if i turn in to a corner it settles down again, any more idea's???

Have you checked the swivels, like the link martin posted?

I'd also check wheel bearings. I reckon straight line they're unloaded and wobbling, when turning they're 'falling over' and bearing faces touching so no wobble .. If it is wheel bearings, get it sorted quickly otherwise they're liable to weld to each other, lock a wheel up and screw your day big style!!
