Got a Free Ride in an AA Van Tonight!

Week 4 of TD5 ownership and I get a free ride home in an AA van, not good! She started fine when I jumped in after work, drove half a mile and then a very sudden loss of all power until I eventually ground to a halt on a blind bend. No warning lights on dash and she was running like a dream until then - what a bummer!

Any theories to what it may be….?

dont spose the AA man had an idea what it was then

Lack of fuel?

First thing I would do is turn the ignition on and listen at the rear for the fuel tank diesel pump.

He linked up the diagnostics but for some reason the Disco wouldn’t talk to the AA, I suspect its fuel pump as there was plenty of diesel in it. Its still under the independent dealers warranty so I guess I’ll find out more tomorrow.

Its only done 68K - I know these Discos have a reputation but didn’t expect this after only 4 weeks!

Youre in the right milage zone for the fuel pump failure.

Is it a common fault then? I’ve heard a few stories of garages cutting the boot floor to get at the pumps, I’d like to think this isn’t the norm as I really don’t want my baby cut about!

Nah! don't worry about that. Remove one(or both of the fold down rear seats. - If you have a seven seater of course:doh:.

Then gently prise the rear carpet trim up from sides and then ease carpet out. You only need to give yourself a nice arch in the middle to gain access to the hatch. Undo screws and disconnect old pump, replace with new one and job done.

If its not the pump then i would be lookign at fuel pressure regulator to see if that has failed, and if not injector rings and washers.

Hi Rob, with the seats up on a 7-seater, you can just tease the carpet out from under the side mouldings, remove the floor seat locking plastic frames and then you have full access to the 10" round tank access hatch.

Any garage that says you need to cut, to access the in-tank fuel pump doesn't know their 'arris from their elbow.
