Good evening everyone! I hope you're all being hugely smug with all the sh*tty rain we're having at the moment! I miss driving around with the confidence that nothing is likely to stop me on my journey!

My first 4x4 was a few years ago when I wanted something slightly different to my usual coupe's and picked up an Isuzu MU very cheaply on the bay of e's, fiddled a little with it and it ran faultlessly for years. I loved the relaxed driving and go-anywhere attitude it had and also the ability to mend pretty much anything on it by welding what felt like scaffolding to it. It was big, brute and built like a ... small toilet.

It was put to work carting and dragging various bits around included my pride and joy, a 1976 Mitsubishi Galant GTO that I bought a few years ago to be restored and upgraded. I've very very nearly finished this now, just small little tidy ups to do to the 'new' 2.6l turbo engine I dropped under the bonnet and to finish running the brake lines and new hydraulic clutch lines before a fingers crossed MOT. It now looks like...

After the MU blew it's head gasket and was sold for parts rather than being mended I've always hankered after another 4x4 to use as a daily, and combined with my recently found love of restoration I thought I may as well do things properly and get the daddy of all 4x4's...

As such, I'm keeping my eye out for a Landy at the moment. There's the RetroRides Gathering at Prescott Hill Climb in mid august. I'm slightly excited that I might find one that I could drive there and tow one of my other cars (see the Fugitive below) on an a-frame behind for a bit of fun, but I'm in no real rush.

So in the right place! by Diabolu80, on Flickr

Doing as much reading as the internet will allow and chatting to a few friends, I'm looking for an early series 3 (for tax free reasons) with either the bullet proof 2.25 diesel or 2.25 petrol, in the short 88" wheel base. An MOT would be good so it can be used as my daily and I'll then be able to tinker as and when, around the other projects.

I'm rather partial to the canvas tops rather than the solid rear, but I think you can pick the canvas up cheaply on it's own?

I look forward to chatting to you guys and sharing the story. I'm really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of a 4x4 again, and especially a Land Rover. I picked the Fugitive up from Bristol borrowing a good friends 110 Defender and loved every second!

See you soon,

Chris :)

Thanks! And apologies but, I hate 'Hello' intro's so thought I'd try and give you a bit more info. :)

As penance... here's my friends V8 Series Landy
