So I have been without a Landy for a couple of years but the urge was too strong.
So I bought a TD5 Disco off Ebay unseen as you do. Maybe paid a bit more than I should as there were cheaper ones around and it was a cat c 2 years ago.
But I got the colour I wanted and the spec. Its an early 2001 on an X so just in the cheaper tax and its a TD5 E so no sunroofs, no air suspension and no ACE to worry about.
As you would expect it has issues but I gave £1650 for it so not too bad.

Anyway I am not used to all the modern tech stuff so looking for a code reader/diagnostic tool.
What would you recommend?
Ideally I want something easy to use for the novice and ideally something that can be used on more than 1 vehicle.

Cheers

Can you be clear what you mean by 'more than one vehicle'?
Nanocom is probably the best but will only work on diesel disco2s unless you buy more unlock codes.

Well not really up on them which why I am asking the question but I thought that I had read that some are coded to the car and cant be used on any others.
So if I connect it to my TD5 can I use it on other TD5s?

I have only ever used VAGCOM which works across the VW range.

Hawkeye works on any vehicle that the device it set up for, we have three D2 V8's and it works on all of them, and it would also work on a TD5 as well I believe.

Thanks for that listerdiesel that's the kind of info I am looking for.
Is it straight forward to use..
I have only had series 1 Discos before so never needed one.

The iCarsoft LR2. Mainly for reading data and resetting codes - nothing too advanced.
pscan.eu - the chap who does it is on here.

I have a hawkeye ( for D1 ). If you have a laptop running M$ Windross, then you might be better looking at something Windross based, as the hawkeye is standalone, and the screen is quite small. Its perfectly usable for what I need it for.... just saying a large screen would be better IMHO. YMMV.

Hawkeye is made by the same people as the Land Rover official reader.

Nanocom is the best independant

Either will do and will have members on this forum able to help
