Guys
I'm going to view a 1991 90 tomorrow. It's an ex raf truck that supposedly has a from factory 300tdi in it. Is this possible? I know the military didn't use 200tdi due to ladder frame but I didn't think the 300 went into production until 1994?.
Is it possible to have a 300? If not what should have been in a 1991 90 from RAF? It's blue with Windows and doesn't look military.
Cheers

I seem to recall Land Rover did ‘factory fit’ power upgrades - new engine basically.

Not sure if the raf would have done that.

Check carefully, is probably a later engine swap. Post photos of the engine on here if your unsure

Don't know if that link will work.
No photos of engine but I'm ok at identifying engines just don't want a 5 hour round trip to not add up.
Asked the guy and he is adamant it's a 300.
It was released from raf in 2012 with 21000kms and he owned it from Feb 17.
Now has 66000kms. It looks very tidy and at £5.5k is reasonable but the engine is concerning me.

Would the original engine number be on the v5

Ditto, the current engine number should be on the V5 not necessarily the original one. Doesn't really matter anyway unless you're thinking of sending it to the U.S.

Because the mileage will not be accurate and the chassis will have needed to be adapted for the 300.

OK, but I still do not see it as a big issue personally, mine is an 87 with a 300tdi, but if it bothers you, then if I was you I would not bother driving the 500miles. As this would be the case even if the work / change was undertaken by LR on behalf off the RAF or by the RAF. Of Course , are you sure it is a 300tdi and not a 200tdi that was fitted?

Cheers

Theres no point in expecting an ex military landrover to adhere to all the civvy specs anyway let alone one thats the best part of 30 years old. Always view the mileage on the odometer with scepticism if not downright disbelief.

Nor did I but he says it says 300tdi on log book.
Anyway, again mot history suggests mileage right for truck but engine would be unknown.
I know this is not vital but good be a 250k engine.
Also if he is unsure about stuff regarding the car then he may not be sure about things like chassis condition and bulkhead. Then £5.5k might be a bit steep.
Just getting all I can as like I said 5hrs is a long way lol and I was stung on my last one I bought (my fault for not checking enough)

Relying on the seller to give good info and not try to mislead you is not a good idea. Always make sure to check the chassis and bulkhead yourself.

Cheers

If it was releassed in 2012 and he has owned since 2017.

Then what is to stop it having had the 300tdi added by a previous owner since it left the forces?

Cheers
