evening all
1998 4.0 SE auto gearbox has always been fine almost imperceptible gear change. Last week had to have new exhaust they had trouble getting the old one off, lots of banging and finally resorted to cutting it off. When I drove it home the gear changes were jerky almost snatching. Over the next couple of days it did improve slightly but not like it used to be. Today changed oil and filter, it doesn't seem to have made much difference, the oil came out looking clean with no smells. Anybody got any idea's?

Check the wiring and connectors underneath and also the engine to chassis earth strap.
I'd chuck it back at the place that did the exhaust.

Afternoon all, just thought you would like to know after working through all the suggestions I got to the plug underneath the header tank, havn't worked out how to pull it apart yet cos I think you need hands the size of a three year old, but after wriggling the wires around the gearbox is nearly back to normal. So when I've got more time I will take the header tank out so I can get to the plug properly and give it a proper clean.
