Gearbox oil.

Hi.
I'm about to do a gear box and transfer box oil change on my 300 tdi manual disco. What oil do you recommend + were is a good place to buy price wise ?

Hi MN, to do the service you want to do will require:

1. Main gearbox - 2.5ltrs of MTF94 oil;

2. Transfer box - 2.3ltrs of EP75 or 80 - 90 transmission oil to GL5 spec;

3. Diffs - 1.7ltrs each one, EP75 or 80 - 90 transmission oil to GL5 spec;

I've just done my tranny box and diffs yesterday and I used fully synthetic transmission oil and the car runs quieter and more freely.

I bought mine at Carrefour for 8euros a ltr. Do supermarkets in the UK sell automotive oils?

i just done my tranny and gearbox tonight, make sure you can get the fillers undone before you pull the drain plugs out. I had a game with the tranny, put a socket wrench in there and had to use me feet to get it to shift!

the gearbox is an arse too, you'll need either a 32mm socket cut in half to get onto it, or remove the prop, or a dirty great stilson.

Whooa, just for a minute there I thought I might find MTF94 at Carrefour, had to re-read it!!!!: doh:

About 40 days.

14 days...so 28 for that and 12 to allow the oils to settle...40 in all i reckon.
