g'day folks
can any one tell me if i can use an oil that is susposed to be up to both GL4 and GL5 standards in the gear/transfer box of a series 3?
i have read on the net that GL5 will errode the yellow metals inside the boxes. is this true?
the only stuff i can find around here is either GL4 or this other stuff that i have already mentioned.
thanks for all answers

Hi

Why will GL5 eat the yellow metals ? I would have thought that GL5 is the latest gen oils and therefore better for youre car.

g'day
if you do a search on the net you'll find lots of information that tells you why.its something to do with the additives that they put in. i thought the same as you when i bought gl5 but after putting it it i came across all these posts on various website that say 'do not put gl5 in yer landy gearbox'.

what i want to know is, will the oil that has both GL4 and GL 5 on the bottle be ok?

i have also found out that bike and boats use GL4 so i'll be orf doon tae ra boatyard tommorow to see if they have any if not i'll try the bike shops.
