hi all - first post!!

I have a 1987 90 with a 200tdi conversion. Fuel gauge does not work correctly - if I fill up the needle goes up to the max ok, but as fuel is used it stops at halfway, does not go any lower...so I don't know when I'm about to run out.
Just wondering if this is likely to be a faulty sender or a faulty gauge???
Look forward to your thoughts so I know which to try first!

Cheers,

Pete

sometimes it will say the tank is empty and when i hit a speed bump it fixes and only stays back on the half way mark. i took it to a landrover garage an they said its the sender. £20 max for a new one :) let me know how you get on. i got to do without for a nother 2 weeks due to a parking ticket! dam them

id say its your sender, that is if the needle goes to full and empty freely when trucks turned off/on then there is no problem with the gage

my gage reads nothing all the time play with the wires and it will read full. i just carry a can of fuel

Weird - the one on my S3 has just started to do that too. New sender time - easy enough to fit with the tank under the seat.

hahaha i love the way plenty of peole have the same problem but they have there alternative to fixing it :)

i also wait for the light but one day it will come back round a bite me. you never know where the next top up will be :)

over all it looks like a simple enough job to fix :)

thanks for the responses - sender unit it is then by the sound of it.
Always nice to know that other people share the same problems!!

easy way to check is pull wire off the tank and turn ignition on and earth the feed wire - if guage rises and falls when taken off earth its not guage

Hi all,

Just thought I would update this thread to confirm I changed the sender unit and problem is now fixed!!

I used a Britpart sender, and it's a piece of cake to do.
Found an old post on here that was useful regarding the wiring, as the Britpart sender unit has the black/cream/green wires on different terminals to the original Landrover one.

Thanks to Tombardier for posting that...wouldn't have been the 5 minute job that it was without that info!

Cheers
