The best l ever get from my TD5 110 (running a mild remap) is 28mpg. I think l drive it carefully, generally under 2,000 rpm except on hills.

I've been driving in Spain where speed limits are quite low. It applies particularly at roundabouts and where there's a side road. The speed limit signs slow you to 70 then 50 then sometimes 30km/h in villages. On exiting a roundabout they want you to stay at 50km/h initially.

On the faster roads it's 90/100/120km/h.
At first the overspeed warning on the satnav was pinging like a kid's toy, but l've been slowing down and obeying the limits for about 300 miles.

The result? 32mpg. I guess l am driving too fast in the UK!

My 300tdi with boost pin and boost ring, decatted, blanked egr, does 89 mpg. Honest.

I brimmed the tank and did 320 miles, just filled up again (although it was still over half full) and it took 45 litres.

I keep to 55 and under and generally get 30-34 mpg in mixed driving. That's with a 200tdi, although the previous 2.5na was almost as good.

I must be doing something right then or my my sums are off. I'm easy on the pedal, short change out of habit and rarely go over 60mph. 300 miles on £55.00 quids worth of premium diesel at £1.29 a litre (9.4 gallons) gets me 32mpg? Thats nearly what my 1.9D Berlingo used to do. Can't be right surely?

My 200tdi with disco transfer box, driving to the limits ( max 60 round here) I get 32mpg.

My 200 tdi does around 28 mpg normal driving. 70 mph on motorways. On a trip across Morocco driving through the Sahara I was expecting to do much less but I was getting between 32 to 35 mpg. We were driving in a group and going much slower through the sand. Its a standard basic 1990, 200 tdi. 110.

Just tested mine for the first time. Replaced 2.5N/A with 300 tdi. with Lt77 transmission. was pleased to see 28.5 MPG. Mixed driving little on highway driving. Most in town or short trips on the Highway at 90km/ph and slow off-roading. 110 pickup.

Yes it can.

i would say your berlingo was fooked!

I bought a brand new 2002 td5 110 double cab Black edition, in 2002, I got 35 mpg doing 75 down the a2/m2 route to sheppy daily. I was impressed for a barn door.

I fill my 90 200TDI up about every 360 miles (its 5% out so thats 342 miles) and it takes about 10 and a bit gallons, so that's about 34 ish. My mileage is mixed 60mph roads and country lanes. I think it amazing for a 27 year old car.

1989 2.5 N/A 110 Hard Top and she returns 32 around the doors and 35 on a long motorway run, usually carying around 1/4 ton of gear in the back.
She only returned around 18 when I got her, and she is maintained and tuned by me and my trusty stethoscope :p:p

Look at all you sensible people with your diesels. My 1986 V8 does 16-20 mpg.

what have you done to tune it up?

Reset the tappet clearances, reset the timing, and adjusted the fuel injector pump. :D:D
Somewhere on here there is a step-by-step account, but it was probably a couple or more years back, and I can't be arsed to go and look for it!
However, by the wonders of modern technology (and Skype) I have guided a few people through the procedure, as the local council have 'had a word' about how many I was doing outside in the street! ;);)

My 300tdi 110 (with allisport intercooler and silicone hoses) was doing 28.5 - 30 MPG on short trips not exceeding 60mph. I've now replaced the turbo (a vane seized) and reconditioned the fuel injectors (which were 20% out) - it's increased the power noticeably and I'm getting 33-34 mpg.
