Hello,

I am changing the bushes on my 90 and have just got the bush kit(83-93).

When I put the bush next to the radius arm the bush looked way over sied for that arm but I am not sure if it is suppose to be like that.

I was thinking that maybe I ordered the wrong type for my vehicle. The 90 is from 1988 and had a 200tdi conversion and a galv chassis so I am not sure if the kit is correct.

Are the later bushes smaller?

Any help would be great

Not sure what you mean by the lip for the bush? With the old bush removed, there is no lip. They fit into the casting. If that picture is with your old bush removed, then it looks like you have still got part of it in there.

Think you might be right, when I looked earlier befoer I clean it, it looked like it was part of the arm.

How do I get that out then?

Thanks

Have you removed the rubber and inner steel tube?
The easiest way to remove them is to have them pushed out with a press. As I said before they are a very tight fit.
Some people burn the rubber out, or drill it out, both methods can be a PITA. Then you can put a hacksaw blade inside and saw through the remaining outer ring. Don't saw in to the radius arm. If you can't find someone with a press then a big vice would be handy.

Either with a press, or carefully with a hacksaw blade through where the bush was, cut through the casing. Make sure you stop before hitting the casting, then you can use a chisel or similar to go between the metal case and the casting to fold it in on itself and it will drop out.

Keep pressing, might take a bit of fettling each way to get them to centre properly, also its worth giving your arms a sand down and paint/spray at the same time to get more life out of them.

Early front radius arms were narrower than the later ones but the diameter remained the same.
Correct there are wide and narrow radius arms depending on the year and if they are from a Disco/RRC or a 90/Defender.

Bush diameter is the same but the width is different.

So I managed to cut the metal sleeving out.

But I am still wondering whether or not I have the wrong bushes.

Is there suppose to be a gap in between the bush or are these incorrect...

Thanks

Get an hacksaw blade in the hole cut through the sleeve then knock out with a punch of some sort. Clean up the hole and refit the two halves you have with the insert to finish it off. @Paul D did a great video a few years ago that's what I used when I first did mine. I think the second time around I used an holesaw for the rubber bush but you've already sorted that part

You've brought poly bushes, there should be a metal insert for them. Clean the arms up inside the holes first with a wire brush

Yes I know I left the metal bush pit so you could see the 2 bushes inside the arm.

Are the bushes suppose to be touching? Or is that gap normal..

From memory the bushes should touch. there is two different radius arm width 38mm and 45mm. what length is the metal sleeves that came with your polybushes? Once fitted the sleeve should be flush with the ends of the polybush. If you measure the metal sleeve length this should tell you if it's correct bushes. i.e sleeve length is 38mm but radius arm width is 45mm then you have the wrong bushes.
Hope this helps
