Stripped down my front n/s hub yesterday to replace the hub oil seal.
All went well, changed seal, regreased bearings etc,put it all back together...up to the point where you put the drive flange on.
It goes on,but there isnt enough room to get the circlip on. Looks like the shaft has moved back about 1/8 inch.....

So what have I done and any ideas on how to fix it,before I start throwing my toys about.
Thanks.

Oh BTW it's a 1986 90

you can get a special bolt that screws into the end of the half shaft and draw it out until the circlip will fit on it. Or ya can wedge a screwdriver in it and drag it back like what I do..

Tried wedging bolts and scredrivers in there, still wouldn't budge.
Put drive flange on backwards against the circlip and levered with 2 pry bars. A 'pop' and out it came. So must have done summat, but hey ho all better now.
Cheers for all the input.

it does done my wheel bearings on saturday and thats what we used
It's the same thread, I've done quite a few and used one of the flange bolts to hold the halfshaft to put the circlip on. Land Rover make loads of special tools, most of them aren't necessary in my experience, a little ingenuity usually gets the job done.

Although I am going to make a crank holding tool for my 300tdi for getting the front pulley nut off, I really don't like the breaker bar and starter motor trick. It goes against my training and background to employ such uncontrolled techniques, having said that I've used the trick a few times now and it works ok ;)
