Ok so i've fitted a steering guard that doesnt come with any recovery points (should have thought that one through better), obviously my standard recovery points had to be removed and will not fit along side the steering guard,

i cannot get jate rings on because of the steering guard,

any other good recovery options? i need a recovery point of some description!

A towbal with some sort of re-enforcement is a good idea, as already said, bolt it in front of your N/S chassis member, it them makes it great for manovering trailers and caravans into position, as you can see down the side of them.
Also you could get hold of some army type recovery D hitches, I got mine from ebay, but I have seen them for sale with one of the major 4x4 outlets, if I find them i'll edit and put a link.

there you go! first 4 do them, £29 a pair. First Four Off Road

You use the 2 front long bolts that fix the bumper to the chassis, and you drill the bumper to fit 2 other bolts. dead easy!
I've used mine to drag a range rover out of a bog. No problem!

These D hitches are brilliant, I have two of these on the front of my 90, they are great for pulling tree's over, recovery, using to run ropes through etc...

I am not sure what sort of bolts they are supplied with but if you ebay them get some long HT bolts and set it up so the back bolts run from the top of the hitch right down through the bumper and into the chassis and the front ones can be the little ones

They're on that link he posted ^^^ "Swivel recovery eyes". On the subject of Jate rings or army type d rings as they've been referred to the Proper Jate rings are forged not welded like most of the ones that are been sold by 4x4 parts suppliers. I would always go for the forged ones over the welded ones. Mainly because you never know how strong someone elses weld is going to be.

These are Jate rings

There are obviously 4 bolts in each, the 2 rear bolts are actually the 2 bolts that you already have to mount the bumper onto the chassis, these are 10mm dia, long bolts that go right through the front of the chassis into a "captive" nut underneath. The 2 front bolts are supplied, you need to drill through the bumper to fit these.

All the various recovery eyes have their advantages and disadvantages. These Military D rings, whould mean that you can't have an A bar on, as they fit in the same location., but were used by the military for lifting the Landrover by helicopter etc.
The swivel shackles use the jacking points. Be very careful if fitting them to the rear chassis cross member, what state is that in?
The jade rings, use only one 10mm bolt through the chassis, whilst I agree that the forged ones are much superior to the welded ones, they are actually made for occasional recovery of the vehicle they're fitted to, using a double pull, ie, hook to both jade rings, one either side, not constant use to recovery other vehicles etc. you could risk damage to the chassis where the bolt goes through if your vehicle is getting on in years.
The recovery eyes fitted to front underbody guards, are again meant for double pulls, in a striaght line, I've seen a few "twisted" guards due to being used incorrectly.

Basically, double pulls are the best with whatever,so the decision as to which you want to fit depends on the frequency and type of use you intend to put them to. (& price!)

The originall Landy "recovery eyes" are NOT for recovery, they are tie down eyes for when the vehicle is being transportedon the back of a transporter or similar.
