Following on from my pervious thread - front brakes pulling , managed yesterday between showers to get some time to investigate - straight away a surprise , got the nearside front off , and the hub looked bigger than that on my previous 88" , then after taking off the drum I found not a single but dual cylinders

Had a quick look in the manual , but could find no reference to this system , just the regular single cylinder at the top . Is this from a 109 ? Assume the principal is the same just adjusting top and bottom . Can anyone enlighten me on what I've got - will help in ordering parts , and is there anything I need to be aware of , I plan to change both pads & all "4" cylinders .
Cheers

pulling to one side is quite common on first press,it is worth curing any leaks and checking parts but i wouldnt just change parts for the sake of it ,if thats your only issue ie brakes are good after, dual cylinders were fitted to 88s after july 1980 ,they can be harder to bleed with the bleed nipple been on the lower cylinder

Thanks for that, makes sense , my previous was a 78 , this is an 83 , was reflecting and yes it's mucky in there , but there don't seem to be any sign of leaks, so was thinking along the same lines , will start just by cleaning up changing the pads , and readjusting.
Cheers

I have had very good results with Mintex lined shoes. Some folk do not like them but my series three would stop very well indeed; until it went swiming.....
drum brakes do not like water imersion.

Post June 1980 models have twin cylinders on the front, even SWB models.

I use and like Mintex shoes but had a braking issue earlier this year where it pulled to one side. Took me ages to realise that the post riveted / swagged into the shoe which contacts the adjuster cam had movement and whilst I could adjust theme fine, when it came to applying the brakes the pin moved and caused pulling to one side on the first pedal press of each brake application. New shoes and I was good to go again but it took me a while to spot the issue!

Can see what you mean , but no it's on the axle stand , just left the jack in place , shall see this weekend what happens with new shoes & a clean .

Shoes changed & adjusted , cleaned up , cylinders greased up & seems to be pulling straight & true , will be leaving it unused for the week & we'll see if the pull returns next weekend after being laid up for a week.
Found a Brit part full front axle brake set in amongst the box of bits left by the PO , guess what - early smaller single cylinder - so he must have bought in error , will stick it on ebay - might get back the price of my shoes - who knows
