Hi. we have a TD4 that started to smoke 2 days ago, started a grey colour now its black, there is also a lack of power, feels like its running out of fuel then it picks up again. any ideas?
Any help would be appreciated:(

Check the intercooler hoses particularly the one across the front. It might of rubbed through underneath against the screw securing the inlet duct to the cam cover.

Just checked it, got a bloody big hole in it:( .. cheers chaser, i'll get it replaced tomorrow, i think i'll clean out the MAF as well sounds like it should be done regularly.
Thanks:D

Just to be pedantic the MAF is not a servicable item. You can clean the EGR out (4 bolts to take out and a couple of hoses) or buy a Synergy from rover ron, disconnect the MAF first to see if makes an improvement/helps. to make sure, they ain't cheap!

I could be wrong but I think Will cleans his as a preventative measure because he uses a K+N and there can be a tendency for oil to affect the maf reading.
I tried the same method to clean an out of spec maf and it made no difference in my case.
