ESC? Not wanting to sound thick, but what does ESC stand for?

So, do you say ABS or "Anti-Lock Braking System"?
ESC = Electronic Stability Control. It's found in almost all new cars today. Manufacturers often use various different acronyms to refer to the same thing though, but the generic one is always "ESC".

It's basically designed to prevent the loss of steering control and shouldn't be confused with ABS which is solely designed to prevent wheels from locking up.

If it`s got 4 wheels, why do you need a control to make it stable? It`s all me arse!
And I don`t say ABS, I just say brakes.

To answer the OP's question - No.
It does not have a yaw sensor nor a steering angle sensor, to implement full blown ESC/ESP.
But it does have the ability to independently 4 wheel brake under certain circumstances.

Freelander 2, OTOH, comes with DSC, ABS, ETC, GRC, HDC, EDC, EBD, RSC, EBA.

it dose have hdc = hill decent control
Yeah but that's pretty useless 90% of the time. I've never found any real use for it. I'd say it's almost a "gimmick". It's almost like applying an air brake to a Defender. (As seen on the Bugatti Veyron)

That may be so for 90% of the time- or even more
but,
In the snow and ice of the last 2 winters I have found the HDC to be extremely effective on steep hills.
Got me down safely where others had slid out of control
The Traction control and 4 wheel split of torque got me up those hills too
An astounding machine in the right hands
For the record, I have had 2 Discoveries and 3 Range Rovers
For Stability Control you need Air Suspension as per Rangie and Disco, or the electromagnetic aligned dampers supplied on top end luxury cars
