Freelander tailgate regulator replacement

I am looking for a little advice on replacing my regulator on my 04 freelander. One of the ropes snapped so I purchased another regulator and went to fit it today. The changing seems straightforward enough. The problem I have is that I cant get the window to go down enough to take the retaining bolts off the glass.

Any advice other than cutting the metal pillars on the old regulator?

Cut the cables and the window will drop so you can get to the bolts. Keep hold of the glass though, or it'll drop with a bang.

Exactly what Nodge said. There are two separate cables and one of them will still be OK if you can't push the glass down. A decent pair of snips will do the job.
