Hey experts!

I have a strange knocking coming from my steering rack. If I hadn't recently replaced both track rod end's I'd have sworn it was that.

If you drive 10-15 mph and weave the wheel back and forth you can hear a light "clunking". You also hear it if you are going over bumps, etc.

Wondering if it's the section where the two track rods are attached to the frame? If it's in here - are they easy to repair - whats accessibility like?

Thank you ;)

I have the exact same problem even at the same speed. I will keep my eye on this thread also to what people suggest.

i would go for drop links mine sounded exactly the same £28 plus fitting and do both sides which is recomended, cheaper option first :)

Anyone got any further ideas before I resort to taking the whole lot to pieces? :)
Drop links .To check the right DL turn the wheel right ,left turn left .Push and pull it on the joints watch, feel and listen for any slight give in the joints .

If they need changing ,do as above .No need to jack vehicle or remove the wheel . Loosen nuts and if the screw/ball joints are moving ,they can be held with a spanner just above the gaiter . Easy to remove and just as easy to replace . 10-20 minutes per side .

IIRC all you need are a 15,17 and 19mm open/ring spanners .

I had 2 garages looking into this same noise including Land Rover. Changed almost everything on the front. Land Rover could not find it all despite 4 visits and my insisting on the general area it was, behind the drivers side bulkhead. Another couple of visits to my local grage and it was found to be just the nut on the top of the strut needing to be torqued up. Since then it has vanished.

I woukld check antiroll bar bushes son in law had same problem not on a landy I hasten to add and he was going to replace the steering rack I told him to look at the bushes and he did and he replaced them no more knocking now
