hi everyone, any pf you guys have any hints tip or warning about swapping the steering rack on a Freelander 1 td4? it has excessive place when the steering is central but going towards the very end of the rack it tightens up. we have replaced the full track rod bars but doesn't seem to have made a great deal of difference. i will be attempting this on the floor or on some small ramps if needed. any help is greatly received many thanks

Not too bad on the Td4. Front on stands wheels off. Unbolt inside column where it fits to rack down by pedals. Unbolt and free track rod ends, undo bolts to bulkhead and then after draining fluid the hoses.

Only warning is not to let steering wheel rotate when column is disconnected as there is a cable clock spring which carries electrics to the steering wheel controls. Tie the steering wheel so that it doesn't spin or you can damage the wiring in the clock spring. Make sure wheel and rack are central before and after change
Patience is key, and long arms!!!
