freelander juddering

I have a 09 plate freelander 2.2d auto and when I accelerate slowly away it judders for a short while, but sometimes quite violently. It never does it when you are cruisiing or accelerating briskly. I initially thought it was propshaft bearings but a local garage has checked those and engine mounts and found nothing. as always, it is difficult to replicate when a mechanic is sitting in the passanger seat, but a friend who experienced it thought it felt like clutch judder, but it is an auto?
Please help.

is it in need of software update, q 106 i think it was.
