Ive used millers xss 10w40 semi synthetic oil in my engines for a few years now ,last week while changing the oil in my freelander td4 I noticed on the oil container label that the oil also met MTF 94 spec(never read the label before) which is the gearbox oil specification,A few days later I was in Macdonalds landrovers in Oswestry and mentioned this to the guy behind the counter he said "oil companies make all sorts of statements about their oils "and I would be a very brave man to use it in my gearbox and should use texaco mtf 94 which they only sold in 20 litre containers and cost a fortune:mad:.
I phoned Millers oil technical department and spoke to a very helpfull guy who said yes their xss 10w40 oil was suitable for the freelander gearbox and would be happy to put the guy in Macdonalds right about oil technology.
Macdonalds also said they used HD 80W90 oil in the IRD instead of 75W90 as specified ,anyone know why?
Has anyone out there used Millers xss 10w40 in their freelander gearbox??
