Hi guys,
Wonder if anyone can help me, I have a 2005 freelander which I have had for around 6 months. Recently I noticed black exhaust fumes coming out from the near side front wing, the car is usually a good runner, but when started now sounds like a tractor.

I've been told this is a common fault with them, is it fixable? If so is it an expensive job?

Thanks guys!

I assume it is a petrol (1800) engine?
If so then i would think the exhaust has broken off below the catlytic converter where it joins to the downpipe. This is a very common problem on ther 18k engine and they can usually be welded back up :)
