Hay all,

New to the forum, so be nice :welcome2:

I've got a 1.8 Freelander, which has just had a new IRD, VCU, brakes and i've changed the antifreeze in the cooling system...

I've got a copy of the land rover workshop manual, so i've been doing little things to it  but now theres a "hissing" noise comming from the back driver side. on closer inspection, its near the exhaust, but its coming from inside the cabin (as i cant access the hissing area from under the lando).

also the cabin has a sort of gassy smell since this hissing started

Any ideas?

Mat

Not a 1.8 owner but had a quick leaf through the Haynes manual. Does the hissing happen with the ignition on but not with the engine running? If so then the most likely candidate for the noise is the fuel pump in the tank but which is accessed through the floor under the rear seats (with carpet pulled back). That would make it sound like its in the cabin, which I suppose it is. What is a gassy smell of? Petrol, exhaust, something else?

BTW, just seen your picture of the car. I assume yours. Nice. Where are you, not in the UK for sure.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Hahaha if my Freelander was my picture, i'd just get the lando dealership to fix it :p

I've change the picture to my actualy lando, so sorry to disapoint Dave. (and im in Cornwall aswell lol)

Now the hissing is only when the engine is running, and i cant hear it from the cabin, only from outside for some reason....

And the smell is like natural Gas, like from a cooker (my nose isn't brilliant though)

I'll have a look under the seats tonight, just to see if i can see any leaks, as the hissing sounds like its pressurized.

I'll let you know tonight :)
