Gooday all, I have a 2001 V6 freelander with a slipping gearbox when warmed up (4-5th) after about 40 minutes running will not drive in these gears at all!
have read all the very helpful threads on this and am thinking of my next move
I have a rover 2001 75 1.8 that i blew the engine on and as the gear box is in great condition (only done 90,000 klm) was wondering can i fit parts or all of it to my Freelander? Or maybe just the solenoid or piston assembly first as i think this where the trouble is having read other peoples probs hope this is posted in the right area Thanks

I have changed the fluid but was unaware of any filter will look it up Thanks! but still trying to find out if i can use 75 box or parts if needed? plan to text the solenoids today

You may be able to swop some parts but the whole box no. Freelanders don't have a diff in the box it is in the IRD and the output ratio is higher and then reduced again in the IRD.
Also a 1.8 Freelander manual box won't bolt up to a KV6, I know because I tried so I doubt the Jatco will either.
If your box has been slipping it will need a complete strip down and throughly cleaned before any repairs are done plus another v6 converter and cooler. I would also imagine that the 1.8 and V6 valve bodies will be different.

Thanks for that its more imfo than i got from the local agents (NZ) who only want to work on the new ones! I have just picked up a second hand box but after reading all the ATF problems i mite try washing out the box with ATF-402 It all runs well till hot about 30 mins then no drive in 4 or 5 123 all good solenoids all cheek out good, changing the box does not look to much out of my depth will read what i can and have a go no great rush not my daily wheels Thanks again any advise helps

It is quite possible that you have a cracked "flower pot" piston , this lets the pressure that holds the drive plates locked together bleed off and you get slip. It is possible to pull the cover that holds this assembly off the gearbox , by lowering the engine unit , and doing it from under n/s front wing .
You can then get Jatco specialist to test for leak , and do a rebuild on that part , and fit it back on , job done . HTSH

Thanks Tacr2man Good news i have picked up a replacement box (cheap) from a blown engine unit that the guy has decided to scrap (now i have to work out how to fit?) will see what people say about it on this site i wonder are there any seals that i must be aware of when changing the box? when i take of the old one i will try to see what i can re the fault and post something that mite help others with this problem. I changed the fluid again last night and went for a spin toke it up to 120ks per hour no problems for 5 klm then 30 mins later when stopped and had to move again started to slip in 4th like it was not going in then once in after a few goes it stayed in and ran well till i stopped and and same again, i did note the fluid i drained out smelt burnt anyway thanks again for time to try and solve my problem not easy in the outback no agent around the corner have the tools so have to get my old body moveing
