Freelander 1.8 petrol 2000 model, how do I restart after running out of petrol ?

Hi I'm a newby to freelander and running out of fuel oops but you don't get much time on red, learnt that the hard way nice walk!! How do I restart the freelander I put fuel in but didn't fire up! So not sure now , does the fuel cut off switch need resetting ? Any info much appreciated ;-) chris

Can.sometimes take more than 5 litres to start. Might be worth adding more fuel.

Any other ideas please , put more fuel in still no joy?

quite often a lot of sludge from the bottom of the fuel tank can get dragged through when you run out of fuel. It will block up the pipework and the pump.

You may need to get a garage to clean out the fuel system for you..

There should be a fuel cut off, under the fuse boxes in the engine compartment. Might be worth a press.

If the cut off has been pressed it sounds like the pump has over speed and killed itself. I have had several vehicles where people pikey it run out of fuel and kill the pumps
