Following on from this thread:http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/finally-bought-one-183029.html, after 4.5 days (or perhaps more appropriately, 113.5 hours) of Discovery ownership, my head gasket decided to help my engine oil make a bid for freedom. Stuck on the M5/M6 interchange this morning with sexy thick sludge pumping out of my engine bay with only 125 miles under my belt. The AA took me to the office (so that I can pick up a second truck) and a second engineer came out and confirmed that the GH has gone. Oh, and that the tracking is out which has resulted in the front 2 tyres being fubard.

As I bought it from a dealer, I called them this morning and so far they are playing ball and have said that they will send an engineer our tomorrow to confirm the problem. Anyone any idea what sort of cost the repair will be? Place your bets.... now!

:hurt:

If a new head is fitted (which is the best route on a TD5) then a head, plus gasket set is about £1500+labour?+vat.

£2500 in total?

Thanks for the replys, that 'crock of ****' sticky is a welcomed read!

I've called the dealer who at first adopted an 'oh dear, what are you going to do' attitude, but now that I've regurgitated some of fanatics thread, he's changed his tune. He is sending his mechanic (a LR specialist) over today for their own diagnosis. What a PITA!

Question now is, do I want my money back, or will a repaired Disco give me what I want?!

I know what I would do, get my money back. I would feel (perhaps illogically) that I would never have confidence in the car.

Me too, sorry to say

I think you might be right. Problem is, I'm not sure if an other disco is the way forward. I've never had a car go so dramatically wrong like this, and I've owned an alfa!!
